CSHF News, Media Releases

Toronto, ON (October 19, 2023) – The SOCAN Foundation and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame are excited to announce the participants for the 2023 Indigenous Song Camp, presented by Amazon Music. The camp, aimed at fostering musical creativity, collaboration, and cultural exchange, bringing Indigenous and non-Indigenous music creators together, is organized in collaboration with Alan Greyeyes and the sākihiwē festival, with generous support from Amazon Music, Ontario Creates and Kilometre Music Group.

Participants for the 2023 Indigenous Song Camp:

Mentors Jenna Andrews and Stephen Kirk, who have co-written and produced hits from the likes of BENEE, BTS, Drake, Jessie Murph, Noah Cyrus, will also be present throughout the camp to support and guide the participants in their creative journey.

This four-day camp will occur at Kilometre House in Toronto, Ontario, from October 23-26, 2023. Participants will explore new writing styles, develop collaborative relationships, and create a community experience. The camp aims to expand networks, inspire new songs, and provide a platform for artists to showcase their work during an industry listening session on October 26. Additionally, Amazon Music will provide a workshop on writing custom music for advertising and offer the opportunity for the participants to score an upcoming Amazon television spot.

SOCAN’s songwriting camps have played a pivotal role in nurturing the careers of artists like Ria Mae, Savannah Ré, and Charlotte Cardin, among others. In 2022, in partnership with the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, the inaugural Indigenous Song Camp garnered an overwhelmingly positive response, with participants including Eli Brown (producer for Drake’s “In The Bible”), 2023 JUNO nominee Aysanabee, and emerging songwriter Ila Barker.
